First Dancers' Intensive

Connecting with Your Art: Dancecraft

DANCECRAFT is a term I use when referring to the technical aspects of theatrical dance and its production. From your first choice of music, it includes, but is not limited to, conditioning your body, constructing choreography, designing and staging your performance. It also includes those supporting functions, that without them, no artist could even conceive of presenting their art.
More technical than artistic, DANCECRAFT is the practical implementation of an artistic vision.
At this, the First Dancer’s Intensive we will focus on Crafting the Art of Dance by first Connecting with the Body, the medium upon which our art is made manifest; then by Connecting with the Rhythm, the source of our inspiration; and finally by Connecting with the People, not only those to whom we present our art but with those cultures and individuals who give meaning and substance to our dance.

Over this weekend-long event, we will explore our artistic connections with our bodies, the rhythms of the Dance and our interconnected and interdependent expressions of art through a series of intermediate/advanced level workshops, forums and shows designed to help Middle Eastern dance-artists refine their craft in a unique and conscientious way.
Looking forward to sharing the creative process with you in May! ~Amani

Connecting with the Rythmn - YASMINE

Got “Magic” Hips? (2 Hours)
Rhythmic Hips = “Magic” Hips! Dancers will learn to interpret rhythm on the body by drilling some of Yasmine’s favorite techniques and movements to Middle Eastern Rhythms to accentuate the “Dums” and “Teks”! Drilling dance movement to these rhythms will help the dancer to feel the rhythm, gain more control and become connected to the music so that the rhythm is visually seen through the movement.

Captivating Choreography (2 Hours)
This class will focus on the precision of the challenging and deliciously rich style of Oriental dance to step up your dance skills with techniques and combinations leading into one of Yasmine’s Signature Style routines. The combinations will be presented within the changing sequences and rhythm progression of the music. The method presented in this class with modification may also be applied to your own Oriental routines giving your dance the look of mastery.
